Criminal Court judge Hassan Saeed has been suspended for 14 days for facilitating an illegal marriage while in the Family Court.
Hassan Saeed was suspended in 2018 for allegedly sending an employee of the Family Court abroad to officiate a marriage when he was the chief judge of the court.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) said today that Hassan Saeed, as the chief judge of the Family Court, had advised the marriage registrar of the court to arrange the out-of-court marriage.
However, the JSC said the advice given by Hassan Saeed was unlawful, went against the procedures of the Family Court, and proved that a marriage was performed in violation of the law. It also said that only the marriage registrar has the prerogative to make decisions regarding marriages.
The JSC, therefore, decided to suspend Hassan Saeed for 14 days with salary and allowances.
