The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on Wednesday decided to submit a motion to the parliament, calling for the dismissal of Chief Judge Shujau Usman of the High Court.
On July 22, JSC suspended the judge for a two-month period, marking the first action taken since an investigation was launched concerning Judge Shujau in October 2019.
Shujau was under investigation for conducting campaign activities ahead of the 2018 presidential election during an unofficial trip to Gemanafushi, Gaafu Alif Atoll.
He was also accused of bribing a family with the release of an incarcerated relative in return for votes.
The Criminal Court's Judge Hassan Najeeb was also under scrutiny for participating in campaign activities, with JSC deciding to push for his dismissal at the parliament.
However, he submitted his resignation on July 5, one day prior to the parliament placing his case on the agenda.
