Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed, stated on Thursday that the deeds for the flats developed by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation in Hulhumalé will be handed over once the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) concludes its probe and makes a decision.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday announced that those on the permanent list of plots and flats would be handed over their registrations within these two weeks. However, the agency is already looking into a number of cases related to the flat.

Minister Haidar had previously said that the ACC probe was expected to conclude within two to three weeks.

There are 13,000 eligible individuals on the permanent list of the housing scheme announced by the previous government. Initially, 4,000 flats were allotted, with three-room flats assigned to those who scored above 76 points and two-room flats to those who scored above 73 points. Minister Haidar said that there would be no change in the criteria. If there is nothing wrong with the old list, letters will be given to those who received the first 4,000 flats based on the same list.

"[If the ACC asks for a review of the list], should it be followed as such," minister Haider said.

After finalizing the beneficiaries of the existing flats, 9,000 people still remain on the permanent list as well.

The minister stated that those remaining 9,000 individuals will be placed on the waiting list for the flats. He added that they will receive flats even if they don't separately apply for other housing projects that this government will undertake.

Minister Haidar said that, although he did not confirm a current plan to develop flats in Hulhumalé, there is always a possibility for it in the future.

An official from ACC said they were prioritizing the flat issue to ensure that it is resolved soon. A special team has been put together to tackle this task, they said.
