People's National Congress (PNC) Spokesperson for the Parliamentary Election Heena Waleed has alleged that opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s campaign banners largely contain anti-campaigning sentiments rather than legitimate campaign pledges or policies.l

In a press conference held at the PNC offices on Sunday, Heena indicated that MDP did not appear to be working to win an election for itself based on the party's campaign material visible on the streets.

"There policies are not to be seen [on MDP's campaign banners]. Rather, we see them anti-campaigning through bitterness at having lost the presidency," Heena said.

Heena expressed concerns about the opposition's practices, and questioned whether the Elections Commission (EC) did not see these public displays which she described as clear violations of election laws.

PNC has earlier announced that it will be lodging a complaint at the EC against the opposition regarding the spread of misinformation in the run up to the parliamentary election slated for April 21.

Meanwhile, HRCM has also released a statement on Sunday stating that it has come to their attention that some, through campaigning, are resorting to anti-campaigning and spreading misinformation or mistruths about candidates or political parties, bribery, vote buying and selling, threatening job security, vandalizing campaign posters and other material and obstructing campaign activities.

The commission called on all to conduct campaign activities for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of any other candidates.
