Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has decided to provide demolition services, the corporation said.

Founded in 2017, WAMCO has expanded garbage collection services across several islands in Maldives. The company now also provides waste management and cleaning services to resorts.

A WAMCO media official told Mihaaru News that demolition services are set to begin early next year initially for islands in the Male' region. The company is already collecting construction debris as part of its existing services, he said.

The official added that WAMCO is preparing packages for demolition services and consulting with relevant agencies. Pricing for the demolition service will be announced once these arrangements are completed, he said.

WAMCO’s Managing Director, Mujuthaba Jaleel, said that the work will be carried out by WAMCO employees.

“If additional staff are required, they will be hired, but no new department will be created. The work will fall under the supervision of WAMCO's projects department,” he said.

In Malé, debris from dilapidated buildings falling into the streets causes injuries to people and damages to parked vehicles. Around 15 such buildings, including private and government structures, have been identified as needing demolition.
