In a letter sent by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, it was stated that the current Elections Chief, Fuad Thaufeeq, will see his term end on November 24.
Former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Abdul Haseeb Ismail, has been nominated for the Election Commission (EC) with his name being forwarded to parliament for approval today.
In a letter sent by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, it was stated that the current Elections Chief, Fuad Thaufeeq, will see his term end on November 24.
Following a public announcement for nominations to the post, Haseeb was selected from among the applicants.
President Muizzu has proposed only Haseeb's name for consideration from the list of applicants.
"Therefore, if the parliament sees fit to approve the name of Abdul Haseeb Ismail, approval of his name is requested," the president's letter said.
Haseeb was appointed Permanent Secretary of the Islamic Ministry in 2019 during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
