Man kept under custody in Male' Jail until his trial is over died on Wednesday evening.
These sort of detentions are common in Maldives, and used to go on for years, where the detained person does not know much information on how their trial is going or when it would be scheduled as well.
Mihaaru News reported the man was taken to IGMH on Tuesday after he faced breathing difficulties.
Maldives Correctional Service has not disclosed any information regarding the detained person. It is unclear how long he had been under detention.
A man serving a three year jail sentence had died in Hulhumale Jail last month as well.
