Film festivals to aid humanitarian efforts in Palestine

Maldivian film industry has planned to launch a film festival at Schwack Cinema and Olympus theater to raise funds for humanitarian causes in Palestine following Israel's continued attacks.

The four-day film festival dubbed "Insaaniyyathattakaa" (For Humanity's Sake) slated at the Olympus theater is organized by the Maldives Film Association (MFA).

The festival will run from Saturday, October 28 to next Tuesday, October 31 where a slew of notable and retro Dhivehi movies will be featured.

The movies include; 'Fathishandhuvaru', 'Yoosuf', 'Dhilakani', 'Hehes', 'Amaanaaiy', 'Ingili', 'Udhabaani', 'Bavathi', and 'Vaashey Mashaa Eky'. Tickets for each movie is sold at MVR 100.

The money raised from the festival will be donated to the Gaza Fund opened by International Aid Campaign (IAC).

The film festival scheduled at Schwack Cinema is organized by the local streaming platform Baikoafu and is named 'Artistes in Solidarity with Palestine'. The festival showcases four Dhivehi movies, and the funds generated from ticket sales are planned to be donated to the Gaza fund.

The movies slated for Schwack Cinema include 'Bos', 'Vishka', Maamui', and 'Nivairoalhi'.

Activities by local artists to aid Palestine

MFA announced a slate of several activities in Malé with the aim of raising funds to support Palestine.

The 'Insaaniyyathattakaa' film festival on Saturday, kicked off with a grand opening ceremony attended by several notable faces in the Maldivian movie scene.

Other activities include a children's eve and jumble sale at Artificial Beach on Saturday evening, a cleaning initiative in the Greater Malé region, and a fish race.

The association held several fund raising events in various islands of Malé atoll in the past few days as well.
