The ruling party, People's National Congress (PNC), has appointed Fonadhoo MP Moosa Siraj as its Parliamentary Group leader.

Siraj, who was elected to the parliament on the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s ticket, defected to the opposition during the presidential election and joined PNC in September.

During Monday's sitting, Speaker Mohamed Aslam announced that PNC had informed the Parliament Secretariat of Siraj's appointment as the new PG leader of PNC.

Currently, PNC is represented by two members in parliament; MP Siraj and Thulusdhoo MP Ibrahim Naseem, who recently joined the party.

Earlier, Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef served as PNC's PG leader. He now holds the position of Minister of Local Governance.

The Progressive Party of Maldives and People's National Congress (PPM/PNC) previously had eight MPs in parliament. However, the coalition's victory in the presidential election resulted in several members being appointed as Ministers and heads of state-owned companies, reducing their representation in the parliament.
