The opposition coalition, consisting of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People's National Congress (PNC), submitted a motion of no-confidence to the parliament against Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Zaha Waheed.
According to the motion, it was stated that Minister Zaha had failed to carry out efforts to fulfill the incumbent administration's electoral pledges concerning the fisheries industry.
The motion particularly highlighted failures to ensure that fishermen are paid a fair amount in return for their catch and noted that fishermen had to travel inconveniently long distances in order to attain ice and fuel.
The 11 parliamentarians that signed the motion included those representing PPM and PNC, as well as parliamentary representative for Kaashidhoo Abdulla Jabir and parliamentary representative for Nolhivaram Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla.
Zaha was appointed as the Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture on a slot allocated for ruling coalition partner Maumoon Reform Movement (MRM).
