Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) on Tuesday denied rumours of the company's intent to lease the new Seaplane Terminal being developed at Velana International Airport (VIA) to Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).
According to the company's official Twitter, there are no intentions to award the terminal operations to a singular party. MACL further assured the public that the terminal is designed and intended to be used as a common facility for multiple operators.

During the parliament sitting held on Wednesday, Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer responded to enquiries regarding the terminal. He revealed that the government has not made a decision on leasing the new seaplane terminal, adding that discussions are underway to make a final decision.
Furthermore, at a press conference held in September, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih addressed the same issue, stating that the terminal was not intended for a specific party.
MACL previously revealed that 73 percent of the terminal development is complete. The project was awarded to a Chinese company, Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG), during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration, for USD 40 million.
