MIRA names and shames 34 tax evading companies, 179 more for non-submission of statements

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has publicized a list of companies culpable of non-compliance to paying regular taxes and non-submission of tax statements.

The taxation authority shared a list of 213 corporate entities, which include 34 culpable of not paying taxes and 179 more for not submitting tax statements regularly.

The non-compliers in paying taxes include companies or entities that submit regular tax statements.

Non-compliant entities includes companies with an outstanding tax amount exceeding MVR 100,000; encompassing TGST, GGST, and Green Tax.

Some of the companies named for not paying regular taxes include hospitality properties earlier publicized for non-payment of resort rents as well; and some of these companies include AAA Trading, Brennia Kottafaru, Jaah Private Limited, Medhufushi Investment Pvt Ltd, and South Palm Resort among others. The companies have not paid taxes since October 2022 to March 2023.

Most recent statistics from MIRA reveal a total of MVR 7.5 billion in tax receivables from taxable entities and corporations, which includes MVR 1.8 billion in TGST, MVR 876 million in GGST, and MVR 2.9 billion in rent from resorts.
