Shareef, who is in his 60s, was the main shareholder of Gateway Maldives, established in 1994. The company had leased Ozen Bolifushi for resort development.
Besides managing the resort, Shareef was involved in various businesses. He also provided support to mosques in Male' City, including funding the construction of Ibrahim Mosque on Sosun Magu.
During the pandemic, Shareef had extended assistance to multiple people in various ways.
