Power restored to Kulhudhuffushi City after day-long outage

A team of from State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has travelled to Kulhudhuffushi City to resolve technical issues that caused an island-wide power outage on Monday.

While the past month has seen recurring power outages in Kulhudhuffushi, citizens lost power on Monday morning and were forced to wait until electricity was restored later that night.

A team of experienced electrical and mechanical engineers from STELCO travelled from Malé City to Kulhudhuffushi on Monday afternoon in response to a request for support from FENAKA Corporation Limited.

STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy posted on X on Monday night confirming that their team of experts had resolved the electrical issue in Kulhudhuffushi City and successfully restored power island-wide.

He also expressed gratitude towards President Dr Mohamed Muizzu for his "strong guidance in finding quick solution to such issues."

A generator had been delivered to Kulhudhuffushi City on March 27 to relieve issues causing recurring power outages on the island over several long weeks. However, blackouts had continued, prompting inconvenienced citizens to stage protests regarding the issue in recent days.
