Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has described Israel's actions against the Palestinian people as ethnic cleansing, stating that is in flagrant violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of 1948.

Speaking at the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), currently ongoing in Kampala, Uganda, the Vice President strongly condemned Israel's attacks on the Palestinian people, which continue to cause the deaths of thousands of Palestinian civilians.

VP Latheef commended South Africa for submitting the case against Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). He urged a swift ruling to determine that Israel's actions are an act of genocide, and to bring about an immediate ceasefire.

He called to find a permanent solution, where a sovereign and independent State of Palestine is established based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Vice President further emphasized the need to reform the United Nations, especially its Security Council. He noted the key role that NAM can play in establishing peace and prosperity in the world.
