Fuvahmulah City Council is taking the initiative to celebrate long-serving tourism industry service men and women on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the government of Maldives has decided to recognise and appreciate Fuvahmulah natives who have long-served the tourism industry to benefit the island.
The appreciation event titled 'Fuvahmulah Tourism Award 2024' is scheduled to be held tonight in the island.
The event will be attended by Malé City Mayor Adam Azim and Addu City Major Ali Nizaar. Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, who will be the chief guest of the event, also travelled to Fuvahmulah today to participate in the celebrations.
During his visit, Minister Faisal will meet with various individuals and organisations active within the tourism sector of the island. Discussions will be centred around challenges and opportunities in promoting tourism in Fuvahmulah, said Tourism Ministry.
Fuvahmulah City Council said the Minister's visit to the island would further encourage the tourism industry within the island.
Currently there are over 50 guest houses in the island, which boasts a pristine white sandy beach and thriving ecological environment with lush vegetation and mangroves.
Fuvahmulah is a popular tourist destination among dive enthusiasts.
