United States has committed USD 8.5 million to the Maldives grant, bringing the total to $45.7 million. This funding supports public finance and governance improvements in the Maldives, highlighting the strong US-Maldives partnership.
The United States has allocated an additional USD 8.5 million (MVR 131 million) to the Maldives under the 14th amendment to the Development Objective Grant Agreement (DOAG) today.
This funding brings the total value of the agreement to USD 45.7 million, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Foreign Ministry described this as a historic "development corporation" agreement aimed at enhancing the Maldives' technical capacity in managing public finances and strengthening its economic and democratic governance.
The amendment was signed by Minister of State Sheryna Abdul Samad for the Maldives and USAID Mission Director Gabriel Grau for the United States during a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Senior officials from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and USAID's mission attended the event.

Michael Schiffer, Assistant Administrator for USAID Asia Bureau, highlighted that this support would help the Maldives address climate change impacts, enhance economic development, and promote good governance initiatives.
He emphasized the strong partnership between the United States and the Maldives, stressing the importance of stability, democracy, and prosperity in South Asia.
