In the Top 16, Eydhafushi beat Gn. Fuvahmulah Dhandimagu team with a 2-3 score last night. In the first half, Ali Naseem (Dhilli) scored two goals, taking the lead for Eydhafushi, In the second half, a ball shot by Naseem hit Gan team's Mohamed Saadh Nizar's leg and ricocheted into the goal, scoring an unfortunate own goal for Gan and leading to Eydhafushi's win.
Dhandimagu had their hopes raised by keeper Ismail Fathih (Thaadey)'s goal. With two minutes left in the game, the goal difference was lowered still by Ajmal Ahmed who scored the team's second goal. However, Eydhafushi held on to the lead to the match's end.
Gan beat Inguraidhoo in competitive game that ended with a penalty shoot out. Ahmed Haleem (Ammadey)'s goal kept Gan leading until near the end of the match, Inguraidhoo caught up through a goal by Ali Fathih. Gan won through the penalty shoot out with a 8-9 score.
In last year's finals, Eydhafushi beat Gan with a 4-2 score. Howeve, this year, in the charity shield match at the start of the tournament, Gan beat Eydhafushi 1-0.
Thimarafushi lost to Kaashidhoo as well through a penalty shoot out. With a 2-2 score at full time, the match went on to a penalty shoot out, which Kaashidhooo won with 3-4.
In the quarterfinals, Kaashidhoo will play against Vilimale', who beat Dhuvaafaru with Abdulla Shaffan (Shaka)'s hattrick.
Kudahuvadhoo failed to make it to the quarterfinals, as they lost to AA. Mathiveri. While the score was 3-3 at full time, the penalty shootout saw Mathiveri winning with 4-5.
In the quarterfinals, GDh. Vaadhoo will face off against Mathiveri. Last night's match between Vaadhoo and Dhidhoo also ended with a penalty shootout, with Vaadhoo winning with 3-4. Player of the Match was awarded to Vaadhoo's keeper Zaidhan Mohamed.
Also playing in the quarterfinals are ADh. Mahibadhoo and HDh. Naavaidhoo. Naavaidhoo beat Mahchangolhi with 0-7.
This is the first time Mahibadhoo has made it to the quarterfinals. They secured the spot through defeating Dharanboodhoo with a 3-5 score. Dharanboodhoo's Muzdhan Hassan scored two goals, and Sajid Ahmed Ibrahim scored one. Mahibadhoo's Abdulla Midhhath Fahmy (Bichud), Gasim Sammam (Sammey), Ahmed Zifan Ibrahim, Usama Hassan Majeed and Shuaidh Shaeed scored goals. Shuaid was also crowned Man of the Match.
The four quarterfinal matches will be played on Tuesday. At 8pm, Gan vs. Eydhafushi and Mahibadhoo vs. Naivaadhoo will be played. At 9.40 pm, Mathiveri vs. Vaadhoo and Vilimale' vs. Kaashidhoo will be played.
