MDP schedules council election primary for January 31

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), on Thursday, announced that it would hold its internal primary election to choose representatives for the upcoming local council election on January 31.

The local council elections are slated for April 2020.

According to the coalition leader, interested party members must apply for candidacy before January 10. MDP will reveal the list of candidates for the primary election on January 13.

A three-day period will be allocated for complaint submission after the tentative list of voters is released on January 7. The final voters list will be released on January 15.

A total of 30,000 votes were cast during the primary election MDP held prior to the parliamentary election. Overall, the coalition leader has more than 87,000 members.
