Parliament's sub-committee of the State Owned Enterprises committee has decided to hold closed today's meeting on Island Aviation's loans and plans to improve its financial situation.
The sub-committee is made up of Dhuvaafaru MP Mohamed Ali, South Feydhoo MP Ibrahim Didi, Kimbidhoo MP Ali Ashraq and Maavah MP Ahmed Shakir.
This committee looks into matters concerning SOEs and ports, airports and airlines.
Today's agenda includes disclosure of details of Island Aviation's loans and other financial information.
Closure of the meeting was proposed by South Feydhoo MP Ibrahim Didi. Chair Ashraq said that this was becuase the committee's findings would be shared with the main SOE Committee later on.
Last year, Island Aviation faced a loss of MVR 71 million. At the end of 2023, the company's debt was at MVR 515 million. Maldivian, managed by Island Aviation, flies to 16 domestic airports and three international destinations.
