Maziya Sports and Recreation Club made a shocking last minute comeback in the second half of last night's Football Association of Maldives (FAM)'s Under 19 Youth Championship match, winning 3-2 against Club Eagles.

With two goals for the Eagles by Mohamed Aiman and Ash-ham Ibrahim, it looked like Eagles was on its way to secure a spot at the semi-finals. However, Maziya came out as the underdog in the second half and changed the game entirely.

Within the first 20 minutes of the second half, Maziya's player Mohamed Afzal scored the team's first goal of the match, sparking hope for the team. Not 10 minutes later, the score became an even 2-2 with another goal by Afzal. The winning goal was by Anoof Abdulla in the 83rd minute, leading the team to victory.

This match marked Club Eagles' first loss in a full-time match in the under 19 category, although in 2018, Club Green Streets won a match against the Eagles in a penalty shootout in the same age category.

With this, all teams in group B have now played two matches. Yesterday Green Streets faced off against United Victory (UV) and won by a staggering 4-1 score.

UV also lost 4-1 to the Eagles in its first match, leaving Eagles at third place in the group stage with a total of three points. Both Green Streets and Maziya have four points each at this stage.

Over in group A, Super United Sports (SUS) and TC Sports Club also have four points each while Odi Sports and Buru Sports Club have a point each.

Last night's match was the last of the tournament before taking a break for the upcoming Eid al-Adha. The next matches of the tournament will be played on 23rd and 24th June, which will also be the last of the group stage matches.

While this is the third championship being held for the under 19 category, the first was held in 2018, followed by 2022.

Club Eagles took home the champion's title in 2022.
