Will return to serve once more: Dr. Shaheem

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that he would return and serve the nation even if the parliament denies his approval.

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) majority parliament has concluded its vote on cabinet approval, denying approval for three members of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet.

The three who did not receive parliament approval are Attorney General Ahmed Usham, Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed and Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

Dr. Shaheem was attending the launch of the Ministry's action plan for this year at the time of the voting. Consequently, he addressed the meeting held at the Islamic Center in his capacity as a former Minister.

He expressed gratitude for being given the opportunity to serve as a Minister three times and conveyed his satisfaction in providing valuable services during this period.

Dr. Shaheem had asked to continue the Ministry's work according to plan and stated that he would once more return to serve the nation.

"I respect the decision of the parliament. It is not new to me. I have faced many challenges while working in this ministry at different times. During this short period of time, I have have spent a lot of effort to develop the Ministry," he said.

Dr. Shaheem said that he did not join the Ministry of Islamic Affairs for the sake of a position. He said that he has many more job opportunities, but national service is a different matter.
