Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has highlighted the importance of charitable spending on Quran classes and mosques in the Maldives.

In a Facebook post addressing concerns about inadequate funds for charitable initiatives, Minister Shaheem emphasized the importance of channeling resources towards local welfare projects.

"There are about 700 mosques in the Maldives. A lot of funding is required for its maintenance and repairs. There are many Quran classes that have stopped operations. Tables and chairs and other facilities are required there," the Minister said.

"There are approximately 700 mosques in the Maldives. Significant funding is necessary for their maintenance and repairs. Additionally, numerous Quran classes have halted operations. They require tables, chairs, and other facilities," the Minister said.

Minister Shaheem said that many Maldivians direct their charity to international initiatives such as mosque construction or water well projects.

"Those are good things, too. However, it is important to take into account the internal situation of the country as well," Minister Shaheem said.

He said that in the future, the charity fund of the Islamic Ministry would be expanded to establish a more accessible system.

According to the Minister, the importance of non-governmental organizations utilizing charitable funds to contribute to internal affairs, particularly focusing on initiatives like children's shelters and centers for individuals with special needs.

The Minister said that he has requested charitable funds to be directed towards local initiatives, with the exception of global humanitarian crises.
