Directly after his inauguration as the Eighth President of the Maldives, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has attended Maghrib prayers in congregation, accompanied by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef.
The prayers were telecast live on tv, and was led by prominent Islamic scholar Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, who is slated for the position of Islamic Minister in this administration.
The President emphasized his commitment to strengthening patriotism and religiosity even in his Inaugural address to the nation. This was an often repeated statement even during his presidential election campaign speeches.
The President said in his address that his administration will pay special attention to instilling knowledge, morals, discipline, religious values, and skills in the youth.
The President and Vice President took their oath of office in a special parliamentary sitting held today at the Republic Square. Along with local dignitaries, delegates from 46 countries, as well as some members of the public attended the ceremony.
