The Government of Maldives on Monday publicly condemned the derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officials of India.

The Maldivian Government in the public statement stated that it "unreservedly condemns all and any action that purports to pervert the true nature and teachings of Islam."

In addition to this, the government had strictly voiced its displeasure over any attempt to demean the holy Prophet (PBUH).

Earlier, the religiously conscious Adaalath Party had condemned the insulting remarks made by BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's insulting remarks.

The party's scholars unanimously agreed that the insulting remarks centered around Prophet Muhammad's marital life were not only misleading, but were made purposefully to incite anger and hatred against the Islamic faith and its believers.

Sharma's remarks heavily demeaned and soiled the image and reputation of Prophet Muhammad, who is not just revered but adored by Muslims and even non-Muslims all over the world.

Following this denouncement of Adaalath Party, the Government of Maldives had also welcomed the denouncement by the Government of India of the derogatory remarks by the concerned officials, and applauded the prompt action taken by BJP against the officials.

Sharma was recently suspended from the party's primary membership for her comments made during a television debate.

In addition to Sharma, BJP's Delhi media operation head Naveen Kumar Jindal was also expelled from the party following his anti-Islamic tweet which had angered many.
