The Members of Parliament who got newly elected to the upcoming 20th People's Majlis are due to take their oath of office tomorrow.

According to the Standing Order of Parliament, a secret ballot must be taken in the first sitting of the new parliament to elect the Parliament Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Ziyau said that this vote will be taken at 10:15 hrs tomorrow. During this time, the sitting will be presided over by the parliamentarian who has served for the longest period consecutively, Meedhoo Constituency MP Ahmed Siyam.
During the recent Parliamentary Elections, ruling People's National Congress (PNC) won 66 seats. Since the elections, 9 independent MP Elects have joined PNC, raising their number of seats to 75.
Also working alongside the ruling party are two members of Maldives Development Alliance, one member of Jumhoori Party and one member of Maldives National Party.
Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party has 12 members in this parliament.
Although initially 11 independent MPs were elected, after 9 of them signed up for the ruling party, only 2 independent MPs will be in the composition of this parliament.
Majority holding PNC has nominated Fonadhoo constituency MP Elect Abdul Raheem Abdulla to the position of Speaker, and Dhiggaru constituency MP Elect Ahmed Nazim to the post of Deputy Speaker.
