Just Sunday alone, Male' City Council has gathered and disposed of 59.6 tonnes of waste from the streets of Male' City.
Male' City streets have been filling up with increasing amounts of garbage this past week with households discarding unwanted items, including cardboard boxes, old furniture and broken electronic appliances, onto the streets after Ramadan related clean ups and refurbishments.
With the increasing prevalence of this issue, Male' City Council, in collaboration with several other institutions, have initiated a program through which they are cleaning up the streets of Male'. WAMCO, as well, has commenced disposal of larger waste items free of charge for a period of three days.
Male' Mayor Adam Azim revealed on social media X that within the past 15 days, 200 tonnes of waste had been collected from Male' City, noting that this equals amounts enough to fill 8 containers of 25 feet in length each.
Azim appealed to residents to refrain from irresponsible disposal of waste in this manner, highlighting that everyone's contentment can be gained through the cleanliness of the home and surrounding neighbourhood.
