Maldives Police Service introduced its four year strategic plan concerning governance and service improvement.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) today launched its strategic plan for the upcoming four years.
The plan was inaugurated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan, in a special ceremony held at Iskandharu Koshi.
Homeland Security Ministry revealed that the plan will focus on five key areas including:
- Eliminating crime and fear associated with crime
- Strengthening the relationship betweein police and society
- Upgrading the physical infrastructure, technology and other facilities to improve the service of MPS
- Review and improve internal departments, systems, process, regulations, policies and procedures of MPS, and
- Make MPS an agency which provides transparent, professional services and one that is entirely accountable.
The ministry believes that this plan will allow the agency to improve its services and achieve its goals.
As such, the ministry will also establish an anti scam centre to reduce the number of scam victims, as well as a hub to combat drugs and other dangerous crimes in line with its national strategy to fight drugs and gang related crimes.
- Formulate and implement a local policing strategy to further develop neighbourhood policing in all areas of the country
- Establish a digital data and technology command to pave way for the implementation of data driven policing
- Strengthening police services in urban centres
- Commence development of basic skills for police and mid career training programs required for all leadership levels, and
- Implement the professional framework for policing, and use this framework in the governance and decision making system across the entire agency.
