MVR 1.8 million spent on Vice President's trip to Paris and Iran: President's Office

President's Office has revealed that Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef's trip to Iran and France's Capital, Paris had tallied a total expenditure of MVR 1.8 million.

President's Office has revealed that Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef's trip to Iran and France's Capital, Paris had tallied a total expenditure of MVR 1.8 million.

The President's Office has been taking initiative to divulge information on funds exhausted on trips undertaken by state leaders alongside details of progress achieved during the visits.

The Vice President's trip to France's capital, Paris upon invitation to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games between July 24 and 25 had had an expenditure of MVR 1.3 million, said the Office.

According to them, the Vice President had decided upon accepting the invitation due to a Maldivian athlete competing in the Olympics after passing the qualifiers for the first time in the country's history. The Vice President also convened with the Maldivian contingent participating in the Olympics, stated the President's Office, adding that he had offered words of encouragement to the athletes.

Besides inquiring their views on advancing the country's sports sector, the Vice President also met with local students residing in France, the Office revealed.

He then departed for Iran after concluding his visit in Paris to attend the swearing in ceremony of Iran's ninth President, Masoud Pezeshkian.

The President's Office stated that the Vice President had also met with Palestinian dignitaries during the trip and deliberated on the Israel-Palestine conflict which continues to count high numbers of civilian casualties in Gaza.

This visit had exhausted a fund of MVR 464,617, revealed the Office, tallying the total expenditure on both trips to MVR 1.8 million.
