Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), which manages the operations of Velana International Airport (VIA) has said that the current bout of stormy weather experienced in the country may result in delayed flights.

In a social media post, the company referred to the latest weather forecast by Maldives Meteorological Services (MET) and detailed that the rough weather may result in delayed flights. As such, MACL urged passengers to take extra precautions when traveling to and from the airport.

"Pack your raincoats, plan ahead, and travel safely," the post reads.

Maldives is currently in the middle of the South-West (Hulhan'gu) monsoon which brings in thunderstorms, strong winds and rough seas. Today's weather was generally rough across the country with parts of the country being on a level 3 Orange warning yesterday.

Non-stop rain in parts of the country, including the capital Malé City, left several islands flooded, disrupting many services as well.

Currently the weather is worse up north than it is in the south, and the storm is expected to last for another five days, said MET.
