President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said today that once all the streets of Male' are developed through the grant from China, a permanent solution will be found to the issue of flooding.

Male' has been experiencing heavy rainfall since morning, with nearly all the streets in the capital now flooded. MNDF is working on flood control as the flood water levels in the streets continue to rise, impeding movement of pedestrians and vehicles alike.

In a post on social media X today, the President said that the government will place high priority on providing assistance to the people in the heavy rains faced across the country.

He stated that there would be positive results if everyone collaborated in efforts to reduce damage and loss to livelihoods, personal property, residences, and other structures in these adverse weather conditions.

"One of the key objectives of the project to develop all roads in Male' is to solve the issue of flooding. Once the project is completed, this long lasting issue of flooding of Male' streets will be resolved," the President said.

"In this same way, road development will be carried out every year as per the plan, and the issue will be solved in the islands as well."

Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib also said that the government is working on resolving the issue of flooding.

He said that a stormwater management system will be established when the road development project is conducted. The project would include surveying and designing the entire capital.
