Parliament postpones recess for two weeks

The current session of Parliament has been extended until August 26. After this date, Parliament will break for recess and resume in October.

Parliament has decided to postpone its recess for two weeks and extend the current session until August 26.

This decision was made due to pressing tasks that need to be addressed, according to Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.

Speaker Abdul Raheem said today that the last day of the current session will be next Thursday, as per parliament regulations.

Following this extended term, Parliament will break for recess and resume in October.

The motion to extend the session was passed unanimously by the 80 members present.

Several key bills are currently sumbitted to parliament by the government, including the debt bill, the fiscal responsibility bill, and a new foreign investment bill introduced today.

Additionally, a motion to recommend the dismissal of Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem was also submitted to Parliament.
