The fifth program of 'Girls to Code' hosted by Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives has begun in Haa Alif atoll Dhidhdhoo. The program is set to continue until the end of August and aims to foster an interest in technology within young female minds.
The fifth edition of 'Girls to Code' series program hosted by local telecom provider, Dhiraagu and the non-profit organization, Women in Tech Maldives in Haa Alif atoll Dhidhdhoo has begun.
Dhidhdhoo is part of the upper north province, in the northernmost atoll of the Maldives.
Set to proceed until the end of August, the program is dedicated for female participants aged 10 to 13 who are enrolled in middle and secondary level schools.
Dhiraagu had earlier said that the purpose of 'Girls to Code' is to foster an interest for technology in young female minds and increase female participation in the field of technology. This program, which had given precedence to children lacking prior knowledge in coding information, will equip inexperienced participants with extensive coding knowledge through practical coding sessions, including how to build ordinary-level websites.
Bishara Hameed, Manager Corporate Social Responsibility at Dhiraagu said that building a community and empowering women is one of the main targets of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
She said that their aim in hosting a coding program in Dhidhdhoo is to nurture the talent of coding within young girls while encouraging self-confidence. Bishara further expressed hopes that the program will cultivate a new generation of female leaders and lead the way to effective engagement of women in the technology industry.
President of Women in Tech Maldives, Mariyam Asna Saeed said that the program not only teaches coding but also important digital talents that are needed for the 21st century, all while encouraging inventions and increasing creativity.
The program utilizes the three most important 'front end' languages for designing website, HTML, CSS and Java Script.
Girls to Code is a series program introduced by Dhiraagu in partnership with Women in Tech which targets different regions across the country.
The program also saw notable success in Gnaviyani atoll Fuvahmulah, located in the southern province, Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi, located in the upper north province as well as Laamu atoll, situated in the upper south province.
