Tourism Ministry announces 18 islands for resort development

Tourism Ministry has announced on Tuesday to lease 18 islands from 10 atolls for resort development.

The details of the islands were revealed at the Investment Forum held by the Maldives at the ongoing Dubai Expo.

This is the second time Tourism Ministry opened bidding for resort development this year. The ministry opened bidding for 23 islands in April. Although they received 12 proposals, only one was island was leased.

Islands to be opened for bidding:

- Haa Alifu Atoll. Medhafushi - 10.90 hectares.

- Haa Alifu Atoll. Alif Alidhuffarufinolhu - three hectares.

- Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Kudafarufasgandu - 1.20 hectares.

- Shaviyani Atoll Kudalhaimendhoo – 14.70 hectares.

- Raa Atoll Ethagilli lagoon and Alifushi lagoons - 10 hectares and 20 hectares respectively

- Meemu Atoll Sedheehura and Sedheehura Sandbank - 4.28 hectares.

- Meemu Atoll Maausfushi - 10.40 hectares.

- Faafu Atoll Enbulufushi - 1.00 hectares.

- Faafu Atoll Jinnathgau - 0.89 hectares.

- Thaa Atoll Kaadoo - 3.9 hectares.

- Thaa Atoll Olhufushi and Olhufushifinolhu - 3.54 hectares.

- Laamu Atoll Kashidhoo- 3.1 hectares.

- Laamu Atoll Bodumungnyafushi - 3 hectares.

- Laamu Atoll Dhonbereha and Holhareha - 4.44 hectares.

- Gaafu Alifu Atoll. Mareha - 17 hectares.

- Gaafu Alifu Atoll. Funadhooviligillaa - 5 hectares.

- Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Kandahalagalaa- 7.4 hectares.

- Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Ferettha Viligillaa and Dhekaanbaa and Koderataa and another island - 9.26 hectares.

Sixty percent of the points allocated for the sale of islands are for the highest price. It will also give more points for priority to environmental matters, staff training and renewable energy.

Investors will have the opportunity to submit bids for the islands by the end of February 2022.
