Interpol has issued red notice on Ahmed Moosa Mohamed (Ammaty), the Managing Director of SeaLife Global, who is implicated in a major housing project scam in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale'.
The red notice states that Moosa is wanted by Maldivian authorities over theft and fraud.
SeaLife Global was contracted by Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in 2014 to develop 3,000 housing units in the first phase of Hulhumale'. However, SeaLife Global did not commence the SeaLife Complex project despite taking booking fees from 280 tenants.
Ahmed Moosa Mohamed left the country after Police commenced investigations into the issue. According to local media reports, he is currently residing in Sri Lanka, a member state of Interpol.
Over 200 individuals who paid for the flats are suing SeaLife over the scam, while HDC and Ministry of Economic Development also face lawsuits over alleged negligence.
Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed announced that Maldives Police Service were seeking Interpol assistance in the manhunt for Moosa on April 18.
