Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has cautioned that Maldives will experience strong winds and rough seas over the coming six days.
In a press release issued today, the MET Office said that a depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify and move towards Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka over the next 24 hours. In addition to this, a low-pressure area is situated over the far southeast of the Maldives.
The office said that the combined effects of these will result in strong winds, and subsequent rough seas, across the country from Wednesday onwards, continuing over the next five days.
Average winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 miles per hour in the southern atolls, while in central and northern atolls it is expected to be 13 to 23 miles per hour.
The office urged seafarers to exercise caution in these conditions, and the public to take measures to mitigate the effects of the strong winds.
