Environment Minister Aminath Shauna has said they are still in the process of discussing providing high speed internet to Maldives via SpaceX's Starlink Project.

Elon Musk launched Starlink services to provide quality internet to the world at low prices, and in February 2021, the Maldives will also be able to gain access to this service. The company, had also opened the opportunity to purchase hardware for the service.

Minister Shauna and Starlink's Market Access Director Ryan Goodnight held discussions to provide the service to the Maldives.

Speaking at the People's Majlis today, Shauna said that she has no intention of blocking Starlink internet services and that discussions are still underway to provide the service.

"Discussions are ongoing. SpaceX has requested not to disclose the information until the discussions are completed,": Shauna.

Founder of SpaceX Elon Musk has said that even if Starlink services are available to a large part of the world, services will be blocked if any government bans Starlink.

The speed set by Starlink is 50-150 megabits per second. Internet was made available at a speed of 300 megabits per second last year.
