Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed late Saturday that 19 additional individuals tested positive for COVID-19 in Maldives.
Speaking at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) press conference, President Office's Communications Undersecretary, Mabrouq Abdul Azeez noted that the total number of confirmed virus infections in the country had risen to 785. He also revealed that 9 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 have recovered, marking 29 recoveries till date.
A total of 41 new cases were recorded on Saturday.

With this development, Maldives presently records 785 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 753 active cases, and a total of 29 recoveries and 3 deaths.
Maldives’ capital Malé, one of the most densely populated cities in the world, has recorded a significant increase in COVID-19 since it recorded its first local transmission of the virus on April 15, involving a Maldivian woman that sought assistance from a flu clinic in Malé after developing symptoms for the virus.
In addition to the capital, COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Uligan in Haa Alif Atoll, Narudhoo and Milandhoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Thulusdhoo in Kaafu Atoll and in Addu City.
The country recorded its first COVID-19 related death, of an 83-year-old local female, on April 29. Since, two more individuals, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man and a local 80-year-old man have succumbed to COVID-19.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The new strain of novel coronavirus has infected over 4 million people and claimed over 278,912 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, 1.4 million people have recovered.
