The government has decided to utilize the Zakat fund to provide food for the people affected in Gaza.
Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed informed Mihaaru that the government is currently exploring ways to send food aid as soon as possible.
The Minister stated that they are endeavoring to send it through an Islamic country that is providing the most humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Israel's attacks on Palestinians since October have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and left many in dire straits. In October last year, the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih decided to donate two million tuna cans.
However, this has not yet occurred due to difficulties in sending the supplies.
Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer informed the Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee that the decision to send the tuna cans remained unchanged but that it posed a logistical challenge. He mentioned that the government was in discussions with the Egyptian government to send them to the Palestinians via Egypt.
"We have not yet been able to deliver, although we are prepared. The Egyptian government has indicated that there is a way to do it, so we are awaiting arrangements to send it as soon as possible," Zameer said in February.
