The Malaysian airline, Batik Air has commenced flight operations to the Maldives.
The first flight of Batik Air arrived at Velana International Airport on JUne 23 with 121 passengers on board. According to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Batik Air has introduced a flight schedule of three direct flights per week between the Maldives and Malaysia, on their Boeing 737 aircraft.
MACL said that in addition to the direct flights between the Maldives and Malaysia, Batik Air will also operate daily transit flights connecting Malaysia, Colombo, and the Maldives. The aircraft which will travel the Maldives-Malaysia route has a capacity of 180 passengers.
Flynas, a budget airline of Saudi Arabia will commence flights to the Maldives in July. US airline Virgin Atlantic is also scheduled to begin flights to the Maldives.
There are currently 36 airlines operating scheduled flights to the Maldives. The number of chartered flights to the Maldives is also on the rise.
