National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said tonight that 37 persons were directly impacted by today's fire incident, and are left in difficult circumstances.
In a post on X, NDMA said that the fire at Gaamagu Cafe', located in H. Dhoohimerige, affected 22 Maldivians and 15 expatriates.
"This authority is currently working to provide the humanitarian assistance needed by these individuals," NDMA stated.
Gaamagu Cafe' building is three storeys high, with the upper floors raised on decks and constructed with corrugated metal sheets.
While the ground floor houses the cafe', the upper floors were being used as an accommodation block for expatriate workers. The building has been damaged beyond use in today's fire.
The residence adjacent to the building was also affected.
