Chief Judicial Administrator of the Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) Aishath Rizna has resigned today, citing lack of a conducive environment to work with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Her resignation has been confirmed by a DJA official. It is reported that her letter of resignation detailed that there is no environment to work with JSC within the legal framework, policies and procedures of the DJA.

She also claimed that the Commission has not expressed a proper vision on a policy level regarding the administration of the judiciary, and further alleged that JSC does not provide any advice or guidance.

In addition, the JSC's Judicial Administration Committee has not taken any decision on the matters to be decided, she further wrote.

"The efforts made so far to resolve this issue have not yielded adequate results, hampering the administrative functioning of the judiciary," Rizna's letter said.

Rizna's resignation comes as JSC investigates several complaints against her.

According to local reports by Mihaaru, she is being investigated regarding the health insurance of judges and complaints about her hiring practices.

Rizna, who was UNDP's Assistant Resident Representative, was appointed Chief Judicial Administrator in September 2020. She previously served as the Registrar of the Civil Court as well as the Registrar of the Supreme Court.
