Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Ahmed Zahir on Monday announced Tuesday as the first day of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan.

As per the lunar calendar, in 2021 (Hijri Year 1442) the first day of Ramadan will fall on April 13.

In his announcement regarding the moon sighting on Sunday night, Minister Zahir stated that no reliable sightings were confirmed across the country, by Islamic nations around the world, nor by trusted scholars. Hence, he declared that Monday is the last day of the month of Shauban, with Ramadan commencing the day after.

He urged the citizens to make the best use of the month of Ramadan.
