Vice President Faisal Naseem on Monday inaugurated a Diploma in Radiology programme in Maldives.

The programme introduced by the joint efforts of Maldives National University (MNU) and the State Trading Organization (STO) opens with 20 slots.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony virtually, VP Naseem expressed gratitude for STO, MNU and the Health Ministry for spearheading the programme. He noted that through the course, locals will have the opportunity to acquire technical skills that would enable them to become active members of society.

Additionally, he restated President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledge to prioritise building human resources through youth empowerment and opportunities to learn and advance.

As per STO, they are working towards opening applications by May for the first batch.

STO has built the necessary laboratory and training centre for the course with the assistance of General Electronic Health Care. The training centre is located at STO's training institution.

The company's CEO and Managing Director Hussain Amru said that it was important for Maldivian youth to progress in the field of Radiology. Hence, STO will pay the fees for the first batch of students, as part of their social responsibilities.

He expressed hope to see more Maldivians in Radiology in the future.

Expressing similar sentiments, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem who also took part in the ceremony noted that there are few Maldivians in the field of Radiology, but with this programme, that will change.

Currently, MNU has 30 programmes related to medicine, including nursing, MBBS and pharmacy.

The University's Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohamed Shareef assured that the programme will be run as smoothly as possible, and those who graduate will be qualified professions.
