A couple was discovered dead in their room in capital Male on Sunday without any visible signs of cause of death. Police announced that their funeral will be held Monday after the noon prayers, after a day of holding their remains in the mortuary while their deaths were investigated.

Gasim Shahid, 50, and his wife Razeena Ibrahim, 40, were discovered dead in their room on Sunday when family members called the police around 12:45 p.m. after they did not hear from the couple again since they entered the room to sleep the previous night.

According to the police, the couple did not bear any visible signs of injuries on their bodies. They had been taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for a CT scan, X-Ray and blood test after which they were placed in the mortuary while Police awaited results of the test.

Police has yet to confirm whether the results have been released. However, they announced Monday that the couple’s funeral will be held after the noon prayers.

Meanwhile, family and close friends have stated that neither of them was known to have contracted any deadly diseases.

Gasim and Razeena are succeeded by three children, two of whom are still minors.
