The government on Tuesday decided to appoint 31 individuals for a newly created political post of 'Policy Director'.

It was revealed that out of the 31 slots, some has already been appointed. However, no details of those assigned were revealed.

The lowest political post in former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's administration were the positions of Executive Coordinator and Coordinator.

President Solih recently appointed individuals for the post of Policy Director for various ministries and government authorities.

Ahmed Irash was assigned the position of Policy Director for Ministry of Youth and Sports, while actor Ahmed Azmeel was assigned the position of Executive Director for National Centre for the Arts.

The position comes with a salary of MVR 11,000 and an allowance of MVR 7,000 adding up to a monthly income of MVR 18,000.

Reducing the number of political positions was one of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's electoral pledges. The ruling coalition guaranteed the reduction of political positions by about 100 posts.

This governments expenditure is MVR 1.5 million less when compared to former President Yameen's administration.
