Tree Top Hospital, on Sunday, announced the launch of an influenza vaccine administration programme in response to warnings of a potential outbreak issued by Health Protection Agency (HPA).

The agency advised the susceptible populations to be vaccinated as soon as possible.

The cost of the vaccine for adults, including administration, is MVR 240 while children can be vaccinated for MVR 215. Children will receive a free consultation from a General Physician at Tree Top Hospital.

While vaccine administrations require an assessment by a physician, Tree Top Hospital will administer vaccines for patients who already hold consultation referral letters issued within 48 hours of the planned vaccination without necessitating another consultation.

Patients who wish to obtain a specialist consultation must make a booking.

According to HPA, the following groups of people are at a higher risk of contracting influenza and will be prioritised during the programme:

- Pregnant women

- People undergoing treatment for long term disease

- Cancer patients, including individuals who have finished treatment

- Dialysis patients

- Senior citizens above 65 years of age

- Children between six months to six years of age

The vaccine against Influenza is available from ADK Pharmacy and State Trading Organization's (STO) Pharmacy.

Tree Top Hospital is also offering home vaccinations for the elderly and physically challenged persons, which must be pre-booked.
