IOIG Beach Volleyball: Maldives secure bronze over Seychelles

Maldives, on Wednesday, earned a bronze medal in the individual category of beach volleyball in the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG). 2019.

The winning pair Shiuzaan Abdul Waheed and Adam Naseem secured the podium finish against the Seychellois pair by 2-0.

Additionally, Maldives managed a silver medal finish in the team category of beach volleyball, on Monday, against Mauritius 2-1. The volleyball team consists of Waheed, Naseem, Ahmed Mohamed and Mohamed Ali, with Abdulla Nasheed serving as the team's coach.

The silver placement is the highest achievement Madives has secured in beach volleyball. In 2015, Maldives earned a bronze medal at the Asian Continental Cup (AVC) Continental Cup.

Maldives has achieved 9 medals at IOIG, including the two gold medals bagged by the women's table tennis team, and the bronze medals won by Mohamed Maazin in the 100-meter Paralympic event and the women and men's badminton team.

In order to reach the target of 15 medals at IOIG this year, Maldives Olympic Association, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, and various sports associations facilitated special training for the national teams.
