Parliament has approved today the appointment of Fathimath Habeeba to the vacant position in the Civil Service Commission.

Habeeba was serving as the Director General of the Civil Service Training Institute.

The position was vacated after former Commission member Fathimath Amira's five year term ended last December.

Parliament voted today on the three names submitted by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to fill the position.

The first nominee Abdul Haseeb Ismail received 18 votes in favour, and 19 against.

Habeeba's name was second. She was appointed unanimously through the votes of the 38 members of parliament present in today's sitting.

Due to this, no vote was taken for the third nominee, Mariyam Shahidha.

Habeeba has served in the Civil Service Commission for 14 years. She holds a Masters of Science from the University Technology Malaysia.

Habeeba has served as lecturer, and as Acting CEO and as such, Director, of the Civil Service Training Institute. She was appointed as Director General in February.

The Civil Service Commission currently consists of Commission President Mohamed Nasih, Vice President Ibrahim Rasheed, Member Mohamed Farusath, and Member Fathimath Shareef.
