The Indian High Commission has called for an investigation into the spread of false news and hate speech against India.

A press statement issued by the High Commission on Friday stated that there are ongoing planned efforts to spread false news and incite anger and hatred about Indian diplomats, employees of the Indian High Commission based in the Maldives, and Indian nationals living in the Maldives.

According to the press statement, this spread of false news about India is aimed to create a negative impact on the close ties between the two countries while spreading terror within the Maldives.

Highlighting that the "Neighborhood First" policy adopted by India prioritizes the Maldives, the statement said that Indian tourists and workers receive warm hospitality and love from Maldivians.

The statement said that spreading false news is extremely irresponsible and called on the government to investigate the matter.

This statement from India comes at a time when the opposition has alleged that there are Indian soldiers based in the Maldives. However, president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has denied these allegations and said there are no foreign soldiers from any country for any military purpose in the Maldives.
